The Anaheim Ducks used their 5th overall draft pick to select Portland Winterhawks LW Nino Niederreiter. The pick was the 2cd highest in Ducks history. With Niederreiter the Ducks now have 3 of Switzerland's top talents in their system (Jonas Hiller and Luca Sbisa being the other 2). Anaheim restocks some major forward talent into their pipeline, and after one year of AHL experience, he could be a big force in the NHL. "We had no idea where Nino was going to go in this draft, but he was most certainly on the top of our list. That is why we felt we had to trade up. Our top prospect Luca Sbisa is the whole reason Niederreiter decided to play the American game. We've wanted to draft this kid for a very long time and we are very happy to have him in our organization. We are sure he is going to make a huge impact on our club in the future." said the Anaheim Ducks GM Niederreiter was at one point expected to go 12th or 14th. But his elevated play had caused some experts to predict him going as high as 4th. The selections made so far have been Seguin, Hall, Burmistrov, Gudbranson, and Niederreiter. It has come as a shock to many that Cam Fowler has dropped so far from 3rd. It will be interesting to see who the Detroit Red Wings select next.
