TSN Staff 01/05/2010The Chicago Blackhawks cleared some much needed cap space by shippiing out forwards Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp in separate deals. In the first deal, Hossa will be sent to the Minnesota Wild, along with highly touted prospect Akim Aliu and two 2nd round draft choices in exchange for young defenceman Brent Burns and the 9th overall pick in this upcoming entry draft in Los Angeles. The second deal will send Patrick Sharp to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for prospects Ryan Stoa and Cameron Gaunce, along with Colorado's 1st round pick in the 2010 entry draft. With these two deals, Chicago has cleared approximately $7 million in cap space. However, there still remains a few restricted free agents that Chicago needs to sign. Among them are goaltender Antti Niemi and defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson, both of whom had breakout seasons for the Hawks and will inevitably be receiving big raises.
